Happy Birthday Mr. Yauch

Already linking back to a previous post, I am going to speak now of Adam Yauch (better known as MCA of the Beastie Boys).

Adam was a great musician, a great inspiration, and a great man. His passing earlier this year was a huge tragedy and he is sorely missed by myself, and many, many others. No, I did not know him personally, but as a collective the Beastie Boys have taught (and continue to teach) me a lot and Adam was surely part of that.

Yesterday would have been his 48th birthday, so Happy Birthday MCA! Where ever you are, know that we love you.

That is Not This/This is Not That

It has been over a year since I ACTUALLY posted (as opposed to writing a post then deciding it wasn't worth publishing - that happens far more frequently). I often forget I ever started this blog, forgetting being something I do quite often - no matter what it is, I can forget it.

ANYWAY, I have an issue; how do I run this blog? Do I go into depth on my opinions of art? Politics? Film? Music? Food? Literature? Do I blog about everything or one/two/three particular things? As I trouble to stay focussed on one thing for all that long (being of Generation Y, and forgetful, as formerly mentioned) focussing on one or two topics for an entire blog seems a bit much.

But at the same time, it seems that most successful blogs are very particular... Do I want this to be a successful blog? Of course I want to see my child blossom and grow, but is a blog a child? Do I have the responsibility to raise it properly, care for and nurture it? To a certain degree I do, and it's about time I take that responsibility!

So here it is, my declaration, my promise! To publish more frequently, about anything, and everything. This particular post is a bit excessive, and perhaps too personal for my liking - you can consider it a type of introduction to me though!

p.s. The title of this post ("That is Not This/This is Not That"), which has so far been mainly irrelevant to the post, is a statement that has been floating around in my head for a while. Most likely it will be used in the future for an artwork - which will most likely be posted here!

The King Adrock

Adam Horovitz is such a sincere guy, there doesn't seem to be many successful musicians who have stayed (or ever were) as honest! the Beastie Boys are amazing, but behind them are 3 crazy creative guys who actually care about, not only what they are doing, but the world around them.

Here is his acceptance speech from the 1999 MTV awards:

Boags/Dead Man

Boags Premium rather obviously taking off Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man (1995) in their newest advertising campaign. Can't say I blame them, it is a great movie, and Boags isn't too bad a beer, plus the ad is well made - so I will allow it.
